Is Quality Really Best On Social?
How many times have you heard this phrase when it comes to social media marketing?
“It’s not about the size of your community, it’s about the quality of your community”
Maybe it’s just me but it seems to be everywhere and it’s just not accurate. It’s misleading small business owners into thinking that the size of their community is irrelevant so long as those within their community fit their ‘ideal’ target audience.
That would be ok if it wasn’t for the fact small business owners are becoming more and more overwhelmed by social media. They are doing everything they are told they are ‘supposed’ to do yet have little or no results to show for it.
Are YOU one of those small business owners?
If so, I want to be real with you because I genuinely care about your success.
When it comes to the size of your community, quantity does matter. It matters A LOT. In fact, it is equally as important as quality.
The reality is, you are on social media to generate sales for your business. That’s the end goal. It doesn’t matter how great you are at social media marketing, if you don’t have enough people going through your sales funnel to convert at the other side then it’s pointless. You are never going to get the return on investment that you are looking for.
Not everyone is going to buy from you even if they seem like your ideal customer. For that reason, you need to have a large enough audience so that even if only a small number convert, it justifies your investment of time, finance and resources in social media.
The bottom line…
It’s not about quality versus quantity. It’s about both.
They go hand in hand. Yes, you do need to ensure the people in your community are targeted and fit the audience you are trying to attract. At the same time, you do also have to focus on building a large audience. Again, this way, when you do earn the right to sell, enough of that large audience are going to be ready to make that purchase. You are going to generate those sales you are looking for. Best of all, selling is so much easier because you are not spending all your time trying to push your products and services on cold leads.

This is just one of the basic misconceptions that I see on social media and I feel like it’s important to offer that alternative perspective.
